How I Made Meditation a Habit

February 4, 2022

In this week’s video, I’m sharing how I started my meditation practice sitting on my bed (with my timer) for just one minute. I did this every day for a long time. Then, slowly, I started to increase my time to three minutes, then five minutes, and so on. I think that starting with this very doable 1-minute expectation of focusing on my breath is what helped to build a habit for me. As I have continued my practice, I’ve noticed how the same awareness that I apply to my breath (or to my hands or feet) can be expanded to include all aspects of my life so that I can become more mindful of my thoughts and actions. If you want to start on this meditation journey, or just want to find a way to make the practice more consistent in your life, please use what I have learned and start with small, doable time increments so that you can make it a habit. Please know that (like anything good in your life) it takes sincere intention, time and commitment.
